Vein Remedies is a clinic based in Launceston set up in May 2004 to deal with venous problems of the legs and skin. Dr Stirling has had years experience working in this area and over the last three years has seen many patients in Hobart who had travelled from the north of Tasmania.

He felt that one person travelling once a week was better than many travelling randomly at all times of the week. Consequently the clinic is open each Monday and Tuesday.

Dr Stirling has had experience with Laser (V Beam, YAG, Copper Bromide and Lightsheer) as well as Medical and cosmetic use of Botulinum Toxin. The vein remedies clinic however is dedicated to treating venous problems. This could include large varicosities or fine but unsightly thread vessels. A

lso managed and treated are the associated problems of leg swelling (oedema and lymphoedema) as well as leg ulcers, which are often caused by poor circulation secondary to varicose veins.

Dr Andrew Stirling has always been keen on effective procedures – after two and a half years spent in the Solomon Islands as Director of Medical Services of the Western Province, he often had to perform interventions such as forefoot or below knee amputations for what may have initially been simple infections.

The corollary in venous disease in Australia is that the most common cause of admission to hospice care for older Australians is chronic leg ulcers and the most common cause of these is untreated venous disease.

After returning from the Solomons Dr Stirling became a member of the Australian College of Phlebology whose members specialize in the treatment of venous disease.

By effective intervention in the earlier stages of venous problems we can prevent progression of the disease and thus the ultimate complications.

Fine vessels may not always be a clinical problem (although they can overly and indicate such a problem) however they can be distressing to people who suffer from them and with treatment able to be performed in the rooms with relatively little inconvenience it makes sense to have them seen to.
